That message mysteriously appeared on AOL in August of 1997. In place of the phrase "Great car deals, maintenance by dummies," AOL's San Diego Digital Cities area was promising nude photographs of Steve Case. Was it the work of mysterious hackers, who'd left messages with their names throughout the area's screens? Or was it the desperate cry of a lonely executive, grappling with elusive hopes for rock and roll stardom? And would subscribers be seeing more come-ons purportedly from the AOL executive? They didn't have to wait long for an answer. Two months later, on October 17, Steve Case's Community Update was altered. And on one of the links, the phrase "This Month's Highlights" was changed to "Hey There, Sexy."
